The Reasons and Solutions for Excessive Foaming of Wire Cutting Fluid

Many individuals often encounter the issue of excessive fine bubbles in both the wire cutting fluid tank and the worktable. In today’s article, the author will carefully discuss the reasons for the excessive foaming of wire cut coolant oil and the corresponding solutions.

As we all know, one of the fundamental functions of EDM wire-cutting working fluid is cleaning. Taking the BrightCut wire cutting fluid produced by Jinan Sandeli as an example, during the production process of EDM coolant oil, a certain proportion of cleaning components are added. Therefore, it is normal to observe a small amount of foam generated when using wire-cutting fluid for metal processing. However, when a large amount of foam appears on the worktable and inside the fluid tank, it becomes abnormal.

The reasons for the excessive foaming of wire cutting fluid and their solutions are as follows:

  1. The fluid level of the Wire EDM Working Fluid in the tank is too low. When the fluid level in the tank is below half, the water pump in the tank continues to operate, continuously agitating the water-based working fluid, which easily generates foam. Therefore, when the water level in the tank is lower than half, water-based mixed solution should be added proportionally in a timely manner.

2. The flow speed of the wire-cutting fluid is too fast, and the bubbles do not have enough time to escape, leading to an accumulation of bubbles and resulting in plenty of foam. In such cases, the flow speed of the wire cutting working fluid should be controlled to avoid being too fast.

3. There are too many right angles in the design of the water tank, or the angle of the nozzle of the wire cutting fluid is too direct. This requires that when designing the water tank, attention should be paid to minimizing the number of right angles. When using 3X POLYMER X 998 wire cutting fluid, attention should be given to not having the nozzle angle too direct.

The water-based wire cutting fluid has a diluted mixing concentration. This occurs because the formula of the wire cutting fluid contains substances that inhibit foam formation, commonly referred to as defoaming agents. When excessive water is added, the water-based working fluid is diluted, resulting in a decrease in defoaming agents and an increase in foam.

The above are the reasons for excessive foaming of wire cutting fluid and the corresponding solutions, as compiled by the 3X POLYMER.
